About

Hello, I'm Sylvia.

I moved to London from Hong Kong in 2022, and it was around that time that I first walked into Kings Cross Studios as a client.

By day, I work as in-house legal counsel, and the intensity of that world had left me with recurring stiffness and pain in my back. I came to GYROTONIC® looking for relief, and found something much bigger. The method taught me to relax, to build strength slowly and patiently, and to use my body in a far more efficient way.

What started as a way to manage physical pain became something else entirely: a weekly ritual of tranquility. Stepping onto the equipment each week, I get to put work aside completely and simply focus on my breath and the small, quiet changes happening in my body.

That practice eventually led me here, as a certified GYROKINESIS® trainer and GYROTONIC® apprentice. I speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, and I love welcoming students from all backgrounds into this practice.

I currently offer group GYROKINESIS® classes and private GYROTONIC® sessions on weekends and weekday evenings. I'd love to share this practice with you, and hope it can bring you the same sense of ease and calm it's brought me.

The method

The GYROTONIC® method

GYROTONIC® was created by Juliu Horvath, a Romanian dancer, in the 1980s. After an injury ended his dance career, he drew on his experience with yoga, swimming, gymnastics and dance to develop a new way of moving — one built around circular, spiralling motion rather than the linear paths common in most exercise.

The method uses specially designed equipment with weighted pulleys that support and guide the body, allowing movement through a full, natural range of motion. Sessions work the spine and joints in every direction, coordinated closely with breath.

GYROKINESIS® is the mat-based counterpart to GYROTONIC®, using the same principles of movement and breath without equipment. Together, the two methods form what Horvath called the GYROTONIC® Expansion System.
